Dr Chris Easton obtained his specialist qualification as an Occupational Physician in 2015. He has since worked in medicolegal consulting. Over the past 8 years he has built a reputation as an objective, thorough and reasonable expert witness with an extensive client base amongst insurers and both defendant and plaintiff lawyers alike.

Chris maintains an unwavering drive towards keeping up to date with emerging medical evidence and recommending evidence-based healthcare. He is sought out by clients for his expertise in directing patients towards best practice clinical care and for providing practical, scheme specific advice.

Dr Rehaan (Ray) Shah is a highly experienced Occupational Physician with expertise in the provision of medicolegal consulting, fitness for work assessments and injury management and rehabilitation.

Dr Shah graduated from Liverpool University Medical School in 2005. He has since trained and worked in a variety of clinical settings at several leading hospitals in the UK. He completed further training in General Practice and Sports Medicine, and in this capacity, consulted for the Welsh Institute of Sport, the Welsh and English Football Association and British Cycling. Notably, he was Head Doctor for several sporting events at the London Olympic Games.

Dr Shah relocated to Australia in 2012 providing medical services and support across a variety of sectors including coal, rail, meat works operations, oil and gas, manufacturing, regional councils and heavy industry. Dr Shah obtained his specialist qualification under AFOEM in 2019.

Dr Shah has worked for a variety of multinational companies in both Australia and Southeast Asia and has presented at National and International conferences. He holds many industry accreditations.

Dr Shah is accredited as an Approved Medical Specialist under WorkCover WA and serves as Examiner for RACP.

Dr Penelope (Nell) Gillett obtained her Occupation and Environmental Physician Fellowship in 2012. She has diverse experience across the resources sector (mining and oil and gas), manufacturing, transportation, healthcare and education. She has 15 years’ experience as a Workcover WA Approved Medical Specialist and permanent impairment assessor.

Nell specialises in complex injury management and rehabilitation, understanding case management from the perspective of all stakeholders due to her career in both private medicolegal practice as well as an experienced corporate Chief Medical Officer. During the course of her career, she has been the Occupational Physician for the WA Department of Transport, Chief Medical Officer for Inpex and Rio Tinto and managing director of her own private specialist occupational services practice. This has earned her the well-respected reputation for fair and thorough assessment, underpinned by strong written and verbal communication.

She has a particular interest in psychological injury and assessment and has been instrumental in driving improvements in organisational management of psychosocial risk.

Dr Matt Atkins is an Occupational Physician with 15 years experience as a Workcover WA Approved Medical Specialist and permanent impairment assessor.

He specialises in evidence-based early intervention injury management, utilising the principles of the “health benefits of work” in work-based treatment and rehabilitation approaches to optimise return to work and claim outcomes.

Matt acted as chief medical advisor to several blue chip and SME businesses through the COVID pandemic response with a focus on protecting the workforce, maintaining business continuity and government/health service stakeholder engagements. Matt consistently sustains a high ethical and performance standard as a highly trusted partner and Chief Medical Officer to clients.

As a certified Medical Review Officer, he has provided advice on drug and alcohol strategies, impairment assessments and health management plans to mitigate drug and medication-related health risks in the workplace.

Matt was previously the founder and Managing Director of a well-regarded occupational medicine and site services company which employed a large number of clinical, site emergency and health staff. The team shared a mission to achieve better health and productivity outcomes for workers and employers.

Over the last 14 years, Matt has travelled to and consulted on numerous mine sites and prides himself as having the “dustiest work boots” in the medical community! His experience and exposure to the culture and rhythms of the resource sector makes him a highly effective advisor with clear and pragmatic solutions to both common and unique health challenges as well.

Euan Thompson graduated from the University of Edinburgh Medical School in 1996, before graduating with his Masters in Occupational Medicine from University of Manchester in 2006 and has been a specialist since this time.
Over the following years Euan gained exposure to a wide variety of occupational medicine both in the UK and Australia, covering the Oil and Gas Industry both in topside emergency cover and in operational audit and strategic advice in the UK and abroad, diving, mining, transport and public sector agencies.

Euan currently holds the position of Chief Medical Officer with Inpex and is Chair of AEROMAB, which he was involved in setting up. In addition to this, Euan examines and teaches Occupational Medicine in two countries, and at Curtin University.

During the course of his time working in occupational medicine Euan has been actively involved in research and publications, but has also worked across all industries in a number of roles, allowing him to develop an understanding of the complexities of managing rehabilitation within compensable schemes. Euan maintains a strong reputation in the industry for providing balanced and thorough opinions based on experience and a passion for evidence-based healthcare.

Sam is a triple fellowship trained Orthopaedic Surgeon who specialises in joint replacement, sports reconstructive surgery and trauma of the hip, knee and shoulder.

Completing specialist qualifications in 2014, Sam undertook fellowships in Australia and North America. In Canberra, he had advanced training with Professor Paul Smith in lower limb reconstruction as well as pelvic and
acetabular fracture surgery. Following this Sam went to Brisbane to work with Professor Ross Crawford with a special focus on hip and knee revision surgery and robotic assisted surgery. Sam then undertook fellowship
training in London, Ontario at the University Hospital Canada. He gained the North American approach to joint replacement and furthered skills in direct anterior hip replacement surgery and complex revision arthroplasty.

Sam returned to Perth in 2017 where he is a consultant surgeon to Royal Perth Hospital and Director of pelvic and acetabular fracture surgery. He also performs joint replacement and sports surgery including complex
revision procedures and tumour reconstruction.

Sam completes independent medical examinations across all schemes.

Dr Chris Cocks

Dr Chris Cocks is a highly experienced general adult psychiatrist with dual qualifications in forensic psychiatry, who obtained his specialist qualifications in 2013.

Chris recently served as the elected Chair of The Medical Advisory Committee for two Ramsay private psychiatric hospitals in Sydney. He currently works as an admitting doctor to Ramsay Clinic Hollywood and sees outpatients through his rooms at Oqea Cares in Subiaco.

Chris provides expert opinion in the civil and criminal medico-legal field. He has previously worked as a Staff Specialist with NSW Justice Heath at The Forensic Hospital in Sydney and as a VMO to Wellington Correctional Centre in regional NSW. Chris is actively involved in education working as an accredited supervisor of psychiatry trainees. In 2013 Chris was awarded a NSW Institute of Psychiatry Special Training Fellowship. Through the fellowship Chris worked for 12 months at the prestigious Maudsley Clinic in London within The Department of Forensic and Neurodevelopmental Sciences. Chris has published research in The British Journal of Psychiatry, European Psychiatry and The Australian and New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry.

Rob is a specialist orthopaedic surgeon offering shoulder, elbow, knee, hand, finger and trauma surgery. He grew up in Wollongong NSW where he attended school. Rob studied medicine at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, graduating in 1990, before completing his Orthopaedic Training programme in Perth in 2000.

He completed a joint replacement fellowship in 2000 in Sweden and upper limb fellowship in 2003. Rob has worked as a locum in the UK, Sydney and Gosford. He is also a Member of Shoulder and Elbow Society Australia.

Rob sub speciality interests include shoulder surgery: the latest arthroscopic techniques for rotator cuff repair, labral reconstruction, AC joint stabilisation, frozen shoulder release, total joint replacement, hand, wrist and elbow surgery including partial and total joint replacement, tendon surgery, Dupuytren's, carpel tunnel, sports knee arthroscopy surgery and upper limb trauma.

Dr Rob Choa is a Specialist Plastic Surgeon both in Australia (FRACS) and the UK (FRCSEd Plast), who has been working in Perth since 2016. He has gained significant exposure to all aspects of aesthetic plastic surgery and is a trusted name in the industry. He is a Consultant in the public health system, working at Fiona Stanley Hospital, Rockingham General Hospital and the Fremantle Hospital Hand unit.

Dr Choa attended Liverpool Medical School in the UK, graduating with honours in 2005. During his time at medical school, he undertook an additional degree in Anatomy, obtaining first class honours.

In 2014 he attended Warwick Business School, and obtained a Masters in Business Administration (MBA). Dr Choa currently has 18 peer reviewed scientific articles and numerous national and international presentations on a wide variety of plastic surgery topics.

In 2016, Dr Choa travelled to Perth to gain further exposure to complex microsurgical reconstructions at Fiona Stanley Hospital. Following this fellowship he returned to London to undertake an aesthetic fellowship at the London Clinic on Harley Street, working with and learning from world-renowned surgeons. In 2020, Dr Choa was awarded the FRACS qualification; the benchmark qualification for specialist surgeons in Australia and New Zealand.

Dr Choa’s extensive experience as a plastic surgeon and academic has provided him with the skills and knowledge to deliver objective, evidence based medicolegal reports.

Angela has over 14 years’ experience as a Manager and Occupational Therapist working within the workers compensation and health industry. During this time, she has been responsible for the delivery of proactive, evidence-based interventions focused on facilitating efficient and durable return to work solutions and improving health and well-being within workplaces more broadly.

In addition to consulting, Angela has held employer-based injury management advisor roles within the resources sector, and senior management roles within a national workplace rehabilitation provider. Angela has extensive experience managing state and national accounts and understands the importance of collaboration to achieve outcomes.

This hands on experience has allowed her to establish a broad and trusted network within the industry, with a unique appreciation of the roles and requirements of all stakeholders.

Frequently Asked Questions
What do you need to prepare?
To assist us it's helpful to come prepared with information about your claim. We recommend you review where you've been seen for treatment or investigations, the names of all medical specialists you've seen and your current medical treatment including medication names and doses.
What to do if you're running late?
If you're running late on the day, please contact us as soon as possible. We'll always do our best to accommodate you however if you're more than 15 minutes late we may have to cancel and reschedule the appointment. With sufficient notice we may be able to undertake the assessment via telehealth as an alternative.
How long does a consultation take?
Your consultation will vary in length depending on the nature and complexity of your claim and the field of the medical specialist you're seeing. Most assessments will be done within an hour but some assessments can last a few hours. If you're unsure of anything please contact us in advance and we'll advise what to expect.
